KAKAOTALK & LINE (how SNS can affect the world)

My daily routine of a day starts with checking my messenger to see if there was any important things going on between chats. Even with my family members, SNS application is what I use more often rather than usual messenger application. The most widely use SNS messenger which is KAKAOTALK is what almost every citizens of Korea, including myself, use. But among the 4 in my family, There is only one person that does not use KAKAOTALK. It is my dad. I had not know the exact reason why when he announced that he was not going to use it. Instead, he started using another SNS messenger; LINE. So all the other family members downloaded the app to chat with dad. This is how I started being interested in the differences between KAKAOTALK and why the latter is more used people followed by how the SNS can affect the world.

IT Technology is the basic of the basic among the enterprises which works in the field of electronic devices. And to prove how the world has developed in the field of information technology, people have invented a way for them to communicate and transmit their knowledge to each other as fast as possible. And this is called the ‘Social Networking System’, so called as SNS, abbreviated. The most famous SNS, which is ‘Facebook’ was made by ‘Mark Zuckerberg’. It had started as just a small company but now, Zuckerberg is standing in the position of a high up billionaire. Today, Facebook is used worldwide and even most of the teens in Korea is using Facebook. Instagram is one of the widely used SNS as well. It is mostly used as a communication way between celebrities and their fans.

Although not as widely used like Facebook and Instagram, there is a SNS which we could say represents Korea. It is KAKAOTALK which is a messenger that almost all the citizens in Korea use. It helps you to text freely without the worry of phone bills since it is run only by Wifi. Another SNS that I would like to introduce is LINE. It is not of a nation SNS but it is used in much more various countries. LINE is not much different from Kakaotalk. It is a messenger that can be used only with Wifi. It also has emoticon characters like Kakaotalk and the dolls and goods related to it is sold online and offline also.

So as someone who uses both of these programs, I have arranged the differences I have felt using them.

The very first and the most important thing about both KAKAOTALK and LINE is that both of them makes you able to send free messages in any places with internet. No matter how long the message is, or how many you send them, it is free to send(if the internet fee is not included).

Also, it has its own representative characters that are used as emojis. The characters have gained tremendous popularity by its cute features. Afterwards, each companies are consistently producing goods with these characters and not a small number of people are obsessed to buy these items.

Third thing is that these applications take only a small part in the storage of devices compared to other applications and it also uses only minor amount of battery.

The forth thing is that you can group chat with other people. One difficulty that I’ve personally felt when using just the original messenger was that it was hard to send and share information with people at the same time. But these apps allows you to chat at the same time which is a lot of help for people who has to make an appointment or is doing group work. You can also send pictures or videos in the chat room and later on, you can go into the gallery of the chat room to see and assemble what photos were sent without having to scroll all the way up to find it. Another practical function is that you can edit photos before actually sending them so as to check for any appropriate parts and cover them with emoji stickers provided in the app. Or, you can draw on the picture and from what I think, this helps a lot when explaining something using a photo.

The biggest difference between KAKAOTALK and LINE is the way of marketing. KAKAOTALK has succeeded in its way of marketing by using games. In the list of the most popular games in google play, many of us would have seen the game icons with little logo of KakaoTalk at the bottom corner. It means that the game can only be played if Kakaotalk is installed and only if the player has an KakaoTalk account. For people who loves to play games, this is a lure that one cannot reject or shake-off because the Kakao company owns profits of many games and has also taken over.

http://www.chinaz.com/news/2014/0110/335065.shtml

And according to research, the overall prices of the goods produced by LINE is more expensive as it is aiming for a more luxurious impression. But since people buy things only depending on the likes of character and the price, people cannot help but be more attracted to Kakaotalk goods. Considering the prices in which the items are sold by, more daily and living simple items are sold in Kakaotalk goods shop when on the other hand, Line stores sell things that are not as daily and which are normally sold on high price.

The last but not the least thing that I’ve noticed as a difference is that Line requires more wifi and internet connection then Kakaotalk. I use both apps on my smart phone and on my laptop also but Line has often lost contact with the internet connection even though the internet was still available, whereas Kakaotalk did not. Did is very crucial as both applications require access to internet. So making the internet connection fast and easy should have been the main focus when producing the program. Whether other Line users are having problem with the internet connection while using, I cannot tell but if there is any but one user who is having difficulty, I judge there would be someone experiencing the same situations.

As I have mentioned above, Kakaotalk is used much more by people in Korea than Line. From my point of view, I think the main reason is because all the other people use it. The only uncomfortable thing about SNS messenger apps that I can think of is that you can only send messages to people who actually owns the app themselves. If someone that you want to send messages to has not installed the application in your device, then it is impossible for you to send any messages using the app.

The second reason is that there are more options provided in Kakaotalk than Line and it is more easy to use. You are able to make a anonymous chatting room that allows you to chat with people who’ve come through any address of the chat room that you might have written in any of your SNS application.

Social networking isn’t for everyone, but it’s now such a massive part of all our lives, whether we embrace or reject the notion, that it can no longer be ignored.

But since SNS has become a global trend, using SNS to make everyone into one and bring them together would be a good way to unite and embrace the world as whole.

The most representative characteristic of Kakaotalk is that it was the first SNS messenger invented in Korea to have the usage of emojis. The characters used for the emoticons had brought a huge effect on the first launch and had gained a popularity and hit. Even today the characters are made into daily goods and accessories. And this field is playing a huge profit in the total earning of Kakaotalk.

Another SNS that I want to present is LINE. It is not of a nation SNS but it is used in much more various countries. LINE is not much different from Kakaotalk. There are many similarities between Kakaotalk and LINE you could call them almost the same. But considering the number of Korean people using these both application, it is a wonder why much more people use Kakaotalk more than LINE. It has identical method of using and is used for common purpose. But why is Kakaotalk more popular? I use both apps and I had occurred to me one day that not much people use LINE and I wanted to find out the reason why. Similar things are getting invented everyday and finding out what is behind the success of one and what’s not would be important in this society.

Everybody has at least happiest and saddest memory in their life. In my case, for now, I would say the most happiest moment would be when I lived in Australia. I had gone there with my family when I was an elementary student and had learnt so much about another country and their culture. Australia had a very different habitat from Korea. The land was vast and every kid came out to run about and play around after school. It also had a different education system. Teacher led the class in more of a debating style and I found it much more easy to show and tell my opinion in each class. I gained new relationships with new people which I still continue today.

So I got curious about other’s happiest memory, such as my parents about their happiest memory.

USA should not have dropped the atomic bomb on any city during the world war II

USA should not have used the atomic bomb에 대한 이미지 검색결과

The world war which was started by Hitler brought the death of thousands upon millions of soldiers and innocent civilians. Just like the name ‘world’ war, the war was aroused between  many countries and so people with diverse nationality had to suffer from the aftermath of the war. But indeed the effect of the atomic bomb on Hiroshiman and Nagasaki cannot be taken out. Although Germany has taken an important part in starting the war, Japan also played a big part in the World War and was considered one of the main culprit to the harm and damage the war gave. So as in a final decision to end the war, the American government dropped a nuclear bomb on two cities of Japan. But the extent of damage these couple of bombs brought to the country was surprisingly enormous.

The atomic bomb which was meant to stop the War and the death of many innocents altogether, only led to a much bigger and disastrous deaths of the Japan citizens. The first bomb, dropped on the city of Hiroshima on 6 August 1945, resulted in a death toll of around 135,000. The second, which hit Nagasaki on 9 August, killed at least 50,000 people – according to some estimates, as many as 74,000 died. Also, the data of the interviews with the survivors and the realistic descriptions of the situation at that time shows how serious harm the crisis has caused the country. The after-cite of the atomic bomb was another big problem the Japan government had to face. Radioactive resulted by the atomic bomb soon made the country overflow with radioactive sickness. It took the lives of much more, and the people who had survived the attack were exposed to heavy non-fatal doses of radiation during the attacks and due to fallout in the intervening weeks. Many of them ended up in lingering health problems and a large number of them were made much more susceptible to cancer.

Using the atomic bomb violates the human dignity of life by taking away the lives of many and unspecified citizen, using atomic bomb. Nagasaki and Hiroshima was a city out of the battle grounds and there seemed to be no reason to attack such cities. The simple, yet huge attack made by the American government killed the lives of thousands with a single bomb. Lives are not something to be valued lightly. But just to maximize the effect of the bomb, the American government decided to bomb a city that has nothing to do with the world war they were having. As a result, thousands upon thousands had to give up their lives just to end a war. It wasn’t just any kind of war of course, but in their point of view, many of them would not have understood why a foreign jet had to fly over their heads and why they had to drop a bomb and why it had to destroy everything they had lived through their lives. In their perspective, it would be same as giving up their lives for nothing. As I have mentioned in the statistics above, thousands lost their lives after the twice bombing. And even after, people had to suffer from the after and side effects of the bomb, their entire life. Nothing can be justified right when it arouses the value of human life.

Radiation from the remnants of the bomb left a sever scar in the condition of the environment and the country itself. The nuclear energy can be a great resource in the human society but when it is exploded, the radiation it produces is fatal and can be deadly to any living organisms. People affected to the radiation has to suffer from various other diseases as mentioned before and even though the condition of one’s body might seem normal at first, it could lead to mutation and deformation to the 2nd generation.

The atomic bomb hasn’t just damaged the welfare and society of the country but it had given negative effects for the future generation and the descendants of the people whose elders have been seriously injured from the atomic bomb are still suffering from minor diseases.  So I believe that the atomic bomb should not have been used in any and all cases of the war.

Abolish of Death penalty.

Death penalty, so called as the capital punishment, is a government sanctioned punishment whereby a person is put to death for a crime. Whether it should be abolished or not has been an hot issue among the people who work in the fields related to this matter.

The main two reasons for the side which insists on the abolish is that it lessens the government budget used on the death penalty and that it infringes on the basis of human rights.

Here I present the reasons in more detail.

death penalty should not be abolished에 대한 이미지 검색결과

pc : http://www.ncadp.org/pages/cost

The lives of people should not be used by any means of punishing of their criminal act. The death penalty violates the right to life which happens to be the most basic of all human rights. It also violates the right not to be subjected to torture and other cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment. Furthermore, the death penalty undermines human dignity which is inherent to every human being. No matter how heinous the nature of the crime may be, it does not make it justified to take away the most basic human rights, the right to live. Even if the criminal have infringed on the victims human rights, executing is encroaching another human rights and it would lead to just increase of this itself. According to research, the vast majority of countries in Western Europe, North America and South America — more than 140 nations worldwide — have abandoned capital punishment in law or in practice. There are still countries which remain as the users of capital punishment. But the world is in the atmosphere of trying to ban and abolish the death penalty worldwide and Korea should not be excepted from this.

Implementing and insisting on the death penalty system is financially a burden to the government budget. To kill someone, it takes a lot of things to prepare. For example, you need the facility for the execution and the preservation of the dead body and this is what could make up for the budget. So instead of using this huge expense to kill someone it would be better and rather be meaningful to use it for another purpose. For example, many family members who have lost love ones to murder feel that the death penalty will not heal their wounds nor will it end their pain; the extended process prior to executions can prolong the agony experienced by the family. Funds now being used for the costly process of executions could be used to help families put their lives back together through counseling, restitution, crime victim hotlines, and other services addressing their needs.

On the other hand, the opposite side suggests that the death penalty system is the most effective way to punish the criminals and furthermore, prevent future crimes.

Just giving the families of the victim psychological treatment doesn’t actually seem to be of any help if you think it in their point of view. Imagine your dearest ones have been killed. Would the treatments be enough? Most certainly would say no. Punishments other than death penalty isn’t enough to lighten their sorrow. It’s not that the death penalty itself would be enough. But it could lead to further crimes by the later released criminal or by the victim or the roundabouts in case of a revenge to the criminal.

water slide accident in USA causes a death of a 10 years old boy

I enjoy riding water slides as much as I enjoy roller coasters. So it was a must for me to visit water parks in summer vacation. But as I always went on the water slides, I’ve wondered if the safety related facilities were actually safe enough and if the nets hung around the slides could actually be able to hold the weight of a fully grown adult if one fell or was thrown to it. Roller coaster accidents is a unfortunately an incident that occurs yearly. But in my point of view, water slide accidents didn’t happen as often as roller coasters.

Unluckily, there happened to be a disastrous incident that happened in USA. On the 7th of August, a boy was killed by a fatal neck injury during a water slide ride.

He had visited the Schlitterbahn Water Park, located in Kansas. He had gone on a water slide called Verruckt which was famous for it’s height and was even recorded in the Guiness book for it.  Although the peak of the water slide reaches the height of 51m, it only takes about 11 seconds to slide down because of the gradient which is near to vertical. Because of this, it was name Verruckt, named after the German word meant for ‘insane’.

But the problem was that since rider had to be capable of his own safety and for the tube to be kept from flipping over the during the ride, there are age, height, and weight limits which the boy didn’t meet in either of them. His rubber boat crashed into the wire fence surrounding the water slide and he fell out the slide.

The waterslide has been currently stopped running and will be until the investigation for this boy’s death is over.

The slide’s open was postponed a few times before it first opened in 2014. At that time, the water park had not revealed the reason for why the open was delayed but it was later said that it was because of a problem with the conveyor belt system which was used to drag up the tubes used for the slide from the ground level.

ABC NEWS has reported that when the designers and architectures for the slide has taken sand sacs on the ride as an experiment, few of them had bounded of the slide.

  1. Why do people agree on abolishing the death penalty system?

It uses up a lot of government expenses and killing should not be used in any means of punishing someone.

  1. Why do people disagree on abolishing the death penalty system?

It is a good way to punish and prevent future crimes. Also, it is now always evil since the technology has improved for the execution.

how

This video is contains various topics about each term project and mine was about the death penalty system.

The death penalty has been operated since long ago.It was a penalty given to those who have committed crime and was a way of punishing the guilties. In the past, before rules such as laws were strictly in order, people were executed with even the lightest crime that we could possibly think of. For example, even stealing was considered a serious crime, serious enough to sentence death to the stealer. But now in the present, the value of lives have been promoted and organizations are active in asserting human rights. As a result, most of the European countries have abolished the death penalty system. But still, countries such as USA and China is still enforcing the system. The death penalty should be banned to grant human rights worldwide and furthermore, encourage world peace.
